Louis-van-Gaal-Memphis-Depay-612736
According to the Sunday Mirror, Manchester United are ready to authorise a transfer for the Holland international Memphis Depay this summer.
The pacy winger arrived at Old Trafford last July amid much fanfare, following his title-winning final season at PSV Eindhoven.
Indeed, Depay netted an Eredivisie-high 22 goals last term, with his brilliant set of performances attracting a £31m transfer fee (via BBC Sport).
However, the Reds’ No.7 has largely failed to live up to the pressure of that price-tag, with his debut season in England drawing just two league goals thus far.
The source states that his manager and compatriot, Louis van Gaal, has grown tired of Depay’s poor performances and is keen to move the player on in the close-season.
Furthermore, the North West giants have already begun contacting European sides to see if there is any interest in a deal, the report claims.
Depay was given his first opportunity at international level by Van Gaal, and though he repaid the coach’s faith in Holland, he has struggled to repeat the trick in the Premier League.
The 22-year-old has created a mere 11 chances – none of which have been assists – over 26 games in the top-flight.
